#DearMe

In celebration of International Women’s Day, YouTube has started a campaign to inspire and empower young girls everywhere. The premise is simple: if you could go back in time, what wisdom would you share with your teenage self? It all starts with two words: Dear Me.

Here are some videos by 3 of my favorite YouTubers:

Hannah Hart

Grace Helbig

Lilly Singh (aka iisuperwomanii)

If I could go back in time and tell myself a few things, I would tell myself a lot of things:

  • Take care of your health.
  • Make time to go to the doctors, even when you don’t want to.
  • Go to bed on time and wake up earlier.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Eat healthier.
  • It’s better to not gain weight than it is to lose weight.
  • Asking for help doesn’t make you weak – if anything, it means you’re strong.
  • Mental health and physical health go hand-in-hand.
  • Always being there for others doesn’t mean you can’t also always make time for yourself.
  • Put time aside for yourself, every single day.
  • Do more of what you love.
  • Sometimes you lose things, you lose people, but look into your heart – they’re right there.
  • You are the strongest person I know.
  • You are loved.
  • Believe it or not, you will be okay.
  • Embrace positivity and optimism.
  • You are smart and capable of anything.
  • You will make it.
  • Education and knowledge come first.
  • Go after your goals and dreams with passion.
  • There is a light at the end of every tunnel – keep an eye out for it.
  • Don’t take blame for everything – place blame where blame is due.
  • Never stop caring.
  • Never give up.
  • Never give up hope – sometimes, it’s all you have.
  • Forgive and keep forgiving – yourself and others.
  • Stop at nothing to make others happy.
  • Stop at nothing to make yourself happy.
  • Family is the people who love you – by blood and by bond.
  • You are not alone, you are never alone.
  • One day, you will find that peace.
  • Happiness is not a destination.
  • Your past makes you who you are.
  • You are allowed to be angry at what has happened to you.
  • Home isn’t a place.
  • Your heart is the greatest thing about you – never lose it.
  • Make others laugh, all the time, whenever you can.
  • Your smile is unimaginably beautiful.
  • The sound of your laughter trumps everything else.
  • Your compassion is not a weakness, it’s your greatest strength.
  • You are different and that’s a good thing – embrace it.
  • Don’t ever stop being loyal.
  • Be more enthusiastic.
  • Let go of your fears.
  • You are not your mistakes and shortcomings.
  • Be more outgoing and willing to try new things.
  • Meet new people.
  • You are beautiful.
  • Love with all of your heart.
  • Don’t ever break promises – your word is all you can give someone.
  • You are enough – you are already enough for the people who love you.
  • You have to be enough for yourself.
  • You’re going to make it. I promise.
  • I love you.

  1. Mmm, I saw this as well… thanks to Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart! I was thinking of doing a post or my own video for this as well. I agree with a lot of the things you listed that you’d tell your younger self.
